Changing the vote threshold is a possibility because the House is allowed to decide how the speaker election is held. Only two plurality elections to decide the House speaker have been held in American history. These last occurred in 1849 and in 1856 when there were multiple political parties represented in the House. This hasn’t happened in the modern, two-party system.

The historical narrative of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is both complex and deeply rooted in the annals of history. Israel, widely revered as the Holy Land, possesses a multifaceted past marked by significant conflicts, enduring struggles, and moments of triumph, alongside setbacks, all emblematic of the determined efforts of its people to protect their homeland.
In 1948, the establishment of the state of Israel marked a seminal moment in the region. However, it also brought about the displacement of numerous Palestinians, an event known as the Nakba. This period was marred by conflicts and violence, resulting in tragic casualties.
Israel has consistently put forth efforts to establish a two-state solution and has presented such proposals on several occasions, exemplifying its commitment to peace and coexistence:
Following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire at the close of World War I, Britain assumed control over a significant portion of the Middle East, including the territory now comprising modern Israel. In 1936, amid Arab opposition to British and Jewish presence, a two-state solution was suggested, with the Arabs receiving 80% of the disputed land and the Jews retaining the remaining 20%. Despite receiving a comparatively smaller share, the Jewish community accepted the offer, while the Arab side declined, opting for violent resistance.
A decade later, in 1947, the United Nations was asked by the British to propose a solution. Once again, a two-state solution was recommended, and once more, the Jewish population accepted the proposal, while the Arab side rejected it, resorting to a full-scale war.
In 1967, following the Six-Day War, Israel faced hostilities from Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, which further strained the pursuit of peace. During an Arab League meeting, the "three no's" were issued: no peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, and no negotiations with Israel.
In the year 2000, Israeli President Ehud Barak held negotiations with Yasser Arafat at Camp David to formulate a new two-state plan. Barak extended an offer of a Palestinian state, the entirety of Gaza, 94% of the West Bank, and East Jerusalem as its capital. Unfortunately, Yasser Arafat rejected the proposal, and a wave of violence ensued, characterized by a series of suicide bombings that claimed numerous lives and inflicted injuries on many more.
In 2008, Israeli President Ehud Olmert made an even more generous offer, which included a Palestinian state, complete control over Gaza, 94% of the West Bank, East Jerusalem as its capital, and additional land as an incentive. Regrettably, this offer was met with rejection by Mahmoud Abbas, Olmert's Palestinian counterpart.
In 2005, Israel withdrew entirely from the Gaza Strip, ceding governance to the Palestinians in the hope of fostering development. However, this territory was subsequently transformed into a base for launching attacks against Israel, reflecting the complexity of the ongoing conflict.
These repeated rejections of offers for a Palestinian state by Israel, often accompanied by violence, underscore the challenges of achieving a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Thus, the pursuit of lasting peace in the Middle East may necessitate not only pressuring Israel but also encouraging the Palestinians to recognize the existence of a Jewish state, fostering the groundwork for a comprehensive and enduring peace agreement.
We must, however, be VIGILENT in accepting ONLY TRUE ACCOUNTS of the exchanges that have been delivered back and forth from each side.
The question, until someone steps in with some kind of resolution, is WILL THERE BE PEACE?

The Israel Defense Forces are “preparing to implement a wide range of offensive operative plans which include, among other things, an integrated and coordinated attack from the air, sea and land,” they announced Saturday.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was overheard telling IDF servicemen “the next stage is coming” during a visit to two of the kibbutzes that were ravaged by Hamas terrorists earlier this week.
Netanyahu’s remarks come as IDF forces warned “anyone coming near the [Gaza] border will be shot,” with troops conducting “small raids” in the area, CNN reported.
The IDF is “preparing for the next steps,” Lt. Col. Richard Hecht said, according to the outlet.
The IDF has swarmed the border with troops and military equipment, but the exact contours of its plan for a siege on Gaza remain unclear. Israel had given evacuation orders to the region as it prepares for a ground invasion targeting Hamas terrorists.
Overnight, Israeli air force strikes took out two top Hamas military leaders, with the terror group later claiming that nine hostages were killed in the efforts. Israel also stated that forces had recovered the bodies of several missing citizens during a raid on Gaza.

With world leaders focusing their attention on trying to solve the Israel-Hamas conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin has resumed hammering Ukraine on all fronts.
Over the weekend, Kremlin forces attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure and struck regions with missiles and drones. Newly replenished Russian forces have also been pressing Ukrainian troops on all parts of the front line.
On Saturday and Sunday, Russia shelled the Kherson region alone more than 200 times, Oleksandr Prokudin, the regional governor, said in a statement.

Iran says Hamas ready to release hostages if Israel stops airstrikes as at least 199 now known taken
Iranian Foreign Ministry Nasser Kanaani claimed that Hamas is “ready” to release the hostages, but doing so would be “impossible” under Israeli airstrikes in the region.
He reckoned that the terror group “stated that they are ready to take necessary measures to release the citizens and civilians held by resistant groups, but their point was that such measures require preparations that are impossible under daily bombardment by the Zionists against various parts of Gaza,” Kanaani said.
Despite this, Hamas has yet to make such an offer publicly.
Judge issues partial gag in Trump federal election interference case
The judge overseeing the federal election interference case on Monday issued a partial gag order on former President Donald Trump, forbidding him from making statements about potential witnesses or making disparaging comments about the prosecutors.
U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan said she would not impose restrictions on Trump's statements about Washington, D.C., and its residence, nor on statements criticizing the government or the Justice Department generally. But she imposed a restriction on all parties, including Trump, that banned them from making or reposting any statements publicly targeting the special counsel, his staff, as well as court staff or personnel.
"I cannot imagine any other criminal case" in which a criminal defendant could call prosecutors deranged or a thug, Chutkan said. “No other defendant would be allowed to do so and I’m not going to allow it in this case."

Israeli official: Iran trying to deploy arms in or through Syria
A senior Israeli official accused Iran on Sunday of trying to open a second war front by deploying weapons in or through Syria as Israel steps up a counter-offensive in Gaza to the south.
Responding to a post of the X social-media platform that posited such a scenario, Joshua Zarka, head of strategic affairs for Israel's Foreign Ministry, said: "They (Iranians) are."

The outcome of this is clear now. For me its very interesting how this could have happened. The area around the gaza stripe is normally guarded by strong IDF units. In addition they've build up a network of surveillance systems like caneras, radar, infrared Sensors and drones. How it could have happened that this amouts of hamas fighters breached that security areas that fast without proper response?
Where have been all that IDF soldiers surrounding gaza and how the hell could they take military bases without heavy weapons? How could it be that the intelligence which has billions of budget didn't got any hints of whats coming? I believe that some people have been aware whats coming.. legal reform, removing the southern obstacle.. getting Iran on the menu.. many possible reasons for some people in power..

Scenes of violence and destruction in the long-blockaded Gaza Strip have filled the world's airwaves throughout four wars and countless rounds of hostilities between Israel and Hamas militants. But this conflict, Palestinians say, is different.
On Tuesday, following a night of intense bombardment, residents were struggling to grasp the sheer scale of damage inflicted on Gaza City's upscale Rimal neighborhood, with its shopping malls, restaurants, residential buildings and offices belonging to aid groups and international media far from the territory's hard-hit border towns and impoverished refugee camps.
Israel has hit Rimal, also home to Hamas government ministries, in the 2021 war, but never like this.
Israeli bombs blew out walls and ripped off roofs of upper-class apartment towers. They toppled trees that had lined the sidewalks. They uprooted streets that had teemed with businessmen hustling to work and vendors hawking roasted nuts. They leveled mosques and university buildings and wrecked high-rise offices of companies and organizations like Gaza's main telecommunications company and Bar Association.
EU's Borrell: Israel Has to Adhere to International Law
Israel has the right to defend itself but some of its decisions would breach international law, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell told reporters on Tuesday.
In response to the attack on Israel by Palestinian militant group Hamas, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said on Monday no electricity, food, water or fuel would be allowed into Gaza.
"Israel has the right to defend (itself) but it has to be done accordingly with international law, humanitarian law, and some decisions are contrary to international law", Borrell said after a meeting of EU Foreign Affairs ministers in Muscat, Oman.

Palestinian UN Envoy Accuses Israel of 'Genocidal' Campaign Against Gaza
The Palestinian envoy to the United Nations on Tuesday described Israel's bombardment of the Gaza Strip and vow to impose a complete siege on the Hamas-controlled Palestinian enclave as "nothing less than genocidal."
Hamas militants carried out their deadliest attack in Israel's history on Saturday, when gunmen rampaged through Israeli towns, killing more than 1,000 people and taking scores of hostages to Gaza. Israel has retaliated with air strikes on Gaza that have razed entire districts as it prepares for a possible ground offensive.
Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant drew international condemnation by announcing on Monday a "total blockade" to stop food and fuel reaching Gaza, home to 2.3 million people. Gallant said Israel was battling "beastly people."

Geopolitical and financial cycle expert Charles Nenner has warned that the world is teetering on the edge of a war cycle that could last many years. The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Iranian security officials played an important role in planning Saturday’s attacks in Israel, but many experts have expressed skepticism about the report. Both U.S. and Israeli officials have said that they have seen no evidence Iran was directly involved in this weekend’s events.
“Iran is a major player but we can’t yet say if it was involved in the planning or training,” said an IDF spokesman on Monday.
Nonetheless, many hawkish voices are already floating the possibility of a military response against Tehran.
Netanyahu Tells Biden We Have to Go Into Gaza, Rules Out Negotiations
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told President Biden in a phone call on Sunday that Israel had to launch a ground invasion into the besieged Gaza Strip and ruled out the idea of negotiations, Axios reported on Monday.
“We have to go in. We can’t negotiate now,” Netanyahu told Biden, according to US and Israeli sources. On the same day, US officials told the media that they expected Israel to launch an invasion within 48 hours.
The report said President Biden did not press Netanyahu or try to convince him not to go through with the ground incursion as the US has shown no interest in calling for de-escalation. Secretary of State Antony Blinken deleted a tweet where he said he was “encouraging” Turkish efforts to push for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Since the Sunday Biden-Netanyahu phone call, Israel announced it called up 300,000 reservists, ordered a “complete siege” on Gaza, and said they were fighting “human animals” in the enclave, which is populated by over two million people, including about one million children.
US, Israeli Lawmakers Call for Genocide of Palestinians in Gaza

Germany Announces $1.1 Billion Arms Package for Ukraine
Germany on Tuesday announced a $1.1 billion weapons package for Ukraine that Berlin said was to help Kyiv get through the winter.
The package includes a US-made Patriot air defense system, two German-made IRIS-T air defense systems, 10 more German Leopard tanks, and other types of equipment.
“With this new ‘winter package,’ we are further enhancing the readiness of the Ukrainian armed forces in the coming months,” said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
The provision of such a large arms package demonstrates that NATO is preparing to support the conflict for another year. In Washington, the White House and hawks in Congress are considering authorizing a giant Ukraine aid package to get through the 2024 election.
After initially being reluctant to go all in on the proxy war, Germany has become one of Ukraine’s top NATO backers, second only to the US. “We are in a state of war…. The enemy will pay a price like they have never known before,” declared Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, immediately after the beginning of the Hamas forces’ military operation against Israel.
Netanyahu’s words conceal a fundamental historical fact: Israel has been in a state of war against the people of Palestine, whom he now blatantly calls “the enemy,” for the past 75 years. The “enemy” he is referring to are the Palestinian people, who have been enduring 75 years of violent occupation, bombings, mass arrests and imprisonment, torture, assassinations, and exile at the hands of the Israeli State, just because they would refuse to submit to the illegal occupation of their land and the blatant violation of their fundamental human rights by the Israeli occupation forces.
More deceiving is the claim that this was a “surprise” attack by the Palestinians. But looking back at the shameful history of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian people in the past seven decades, and its recent offending actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, no rational mind would be “surprised” by the Palestinian reaction.
Congo Orders Regional Peacekeepers to Leave by December
Congo’s government spokesperson has said that the East African regional force would have to leave the country by Dec. 8 because of a “lack of satisfactory results on the ground” as agreed on during a regional meeting.
Partick Muyaya told journalists on Monday night that the East African Community, or EAC, force must leave the country “because it has not been able to resolve the problem, notably that of the M23.”
The government says the M23 rebel group has, under the watch of the regional force, refused to withdraw from the territories of Masisi, Rutshuru and Nyiragongo, in violation of the Luanda agreement.
Violent clashes between armed groups have intensified in the Masisi and Rutshuru territories, located in North Kivu province since Oct. 1.
French Troops Begin Withdrawal From Niger
French military convoys have begun withdrawing from bases in southwest Niger, marking the start of a departure demanded by Niger's junta that has dealt a further blow to France's influence in West Africa's conflict-hit Sahel region.
Pickup trucks and armoured personnel carriers laden with French troops drove through the dusty outskirts of the capital Niamey on Tuesday, a Reuters reporter said, after the junta late on Monday said the withdrawal would kick off the following day.
In a statement read on state television, the military government called for citizens' cooperation with the troop movements that it said would involve some of the 1,500 French soldiers leaving Niger via road to Chad, a journey of hundreds of kilometres through sometimes insecure territory.
A few dozen French servicemen flew out of Niger on a military plane on Monday, an airport worker and two other sources familiar with the flight said.

A 23-year-old was arrested for gun possession. It led the FBI to a global Satanic cult
An arrest on gun possession charges in Queens, New York, in November 2021 has led the Federal Bureau of Investigation to a pedophilic, Satanist extortion cult that has victimized dozens if not hundreds of minors, according to law enforcement documents, court records and sources with knowledge of the investigation.
Law enforcement discovered the organization, known as 764 and a range of aliases, while investigating alarming social media posts made by Angel Almeida, a 23-year-old resident of Astoria, Queens.
On 12 September 2023, the FBI issued a public warning about 764, noting the group is “deliberately targeting minor victims on publicly available messaging platforms to extort them into recording or livestreaming acts of self-harm and producing child sexual abuse material”. The advisory is the first formal mention of 764 by any American law enforcement agency.
The group appears to target children between the ages of eight and 17, the advisory notes, and particularly focuses on young people of color, youth identifying as LGBTQ+ or youth who struggle with mental health issues. Researchers familiar with 764 indicate the group’s members cultivate ties with minors through a wide range of platforms: either in wildly popular games like Roblox or gaming communications platforms like Discord and Twitch, as well as curated playlists on the streaming service SoundCloud.
The group’s main form of communication is on Telegram, which has long been the platform of choice for many far-right extremists.
Members “use threats, blackmail and manipulation” to get youth to record videos showing acts of self-harm, animal cruelty, sexual acts and even suicide, the authorities warn. The footage is then circulated among members to extort victims further and exert control over them. In the group’s channels, members share violent “gore” videos depicting torture, lethal violence and other such acts, in an effort to desensitize viewers to acts of ultra violence.
Matthew Graves, a Biden-appointed US Attorney for DC and the January 6 lead prosecutor, refused to reveal the names of those involved in a decision to not bring charges against Hunter Biden.
Graves told lawmakers he is “already dealing with enough threats and harassment” in the transcript obtained by Just the News.
He told lawmakers how his office did not partner with US Attorney from Delaware Dave Weiss. Weiss was eventually given special counsel status and charged Hunter Biden with federal crimes related to a gun purchase.
According to the transcript, Graves met with “five or six” people from his office in March 2022 to determine whether Hunter should be charged with tax crimes. Three weeks later Graves’ office decided not to be involved in Hunter Biden’s case, Just the News reported.

New Mexico renews public health emergency on guns
New Mexico officials Friday renewed an order declaring gun violence a “public health emergency” and mandating several anti-gun measures.
According to the public health order signed by New Mexico Health Secretary Patrick Allen, “gun violence and substance abuse currently constitute statewide public health emergencies.” Noting that the Health Department possesses “inherent constitutional police powers . . . to preserve and promote public health and safety,” the order prohibits civilians from carrying firearms near public parks and playgrounds in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.
Other anti-gun measures in the order include monthly inspections of licensed firearms dealers across the state and the implementation of gun buyback programs in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Espanola.
New Mexico’s Public Health Emergency Response Act extends “special powers” to the governor and allows for the isolation and quarantining of taxpayers.
“The fact of the matter is that New Mexicans are still being threatened, injured and killed by firearms. Just yesterday, two guns were found in the possession of students at an Albuquerque high school, and while thankfully no one was hurt, these incidents have profound psychological effects on our children,” said New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in a statement. “The last four weeks have clearly demonstrated the impact we can have on violent crime when we work in better coordination, but the situation remains dire. We’re not letting up, and I’m continuing to make investments that drive down violence in our communities and protect our children.”

Biden's Military Looks to Illegals to Boost Recruiting Levels
Biden's woke military continues to struggle with recruiting, but may start filling ranks with scores of single, military-aged men streaming across the southern border.
Granting such waivers puts new recruits on a pathway to citizenship. Retired Army captain and JAG lawyer Sean Timmons calls it the perfect opportunity.
"Luring unsuspecting applicants who are economically depressed, or economically desperate, into the ranks is one of the mechanisms for recruiting," he says.
But there's no guarantee foreign-born soldiers would remain loyal to the U.S.

Lawsuit Warns $234 Billion In Aid To Israel Violates US Law Against Supporting Secret Nuclear States
Filed Aug. 8 by Grant Smith, director of the Institute for Research: Middle East Policy, or IRMEP, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the suit alleges that U.S. aid to Israel violates two amendments to the 1961 Foreign Assistance Act, known as the the Symington and Glenn Amendments, which collectively ban support for countries engaged in clandestine nuclear programs.
In the lawsuit, Smith alleges that violating these amendments means that Israel has received approximately $234 billion in illegal aid since the passage of the International Security Assistance and Arms Export Control Act of 1976.
The lawsuit reads:
“This lawsuit is not about foreign policy. It is about the rule of law, presidential power, the structural limits of the U.S. Constitution, and the right of the public to understand the functions of government and informed petition of the government for redress.”
U.S. foreign policy is in sharp focus right now, as President Barack Obama prepares to sign off on a record-breaking aid package that would add to the $3.1 billion in annual military aid that Israel already receives.
Despite the U.S. government, and a compliant mainstream media, raising the alarm about the supposed dangers of the Iranian nuclear program, Israel possesses dozens of nuclear weapons — with some reports indicating the Jewish State possesses over a hundred — while showing no sign of halting its development of more.
And the WikiLeaks archive of Hillary Clinton’s emails suggests this is unlikely to change after November, with the potential future president heavily invested in maintaining Israel’s claim to a near monopoly on nuclear power in the Middle East.
Israel’s dangerous ‘nuclear ambiguity’
The IRMEP lawsuit argues that Israel’s policy of official secrecy on its nuclear weapons program perfectly fits the definition of the 1976 Export Control Act, and that the U.S. government broke the law through its “failure to act upon facts long in their possession while prohibiting the release of official government information about Israel’s nuclear weapons program, particularly ongoing illicit transfers of nuclear weapons material and technology from the U.S. to Israel.”
Smith wrote that the U.S. offers material support to Israel’s nuclear program while helping suppress information about the program.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar have released official statements concerning the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian factions, including Hamas. Both nations have expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence and have called for immediate de-escalation and the protection of civilians. Interestingly, both statements hold Israel responsible for the current situation, albeit with nuanced differences in their approaches.
Qatar’s Statement: A Direct Accusation Against Israel
The State of Qatar’s statement is more direct in its accusation against Israel. It holds Israel “solely responsible for the ongoing escalation” due to its “ongoing violations of the rights of the Palestinian people.” Qatar specifically mentions the “repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of the Israeli police” as the latest in a series of violations.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls for urgent international action to “compel Israel to stop its flagrant violations of international law” and to respect international resolutions and the “historical rights of the Palestinian people.”
The statement reiterates Qatar’s “firm position” on the “justice of the Palestinian cause” and calls for the establishment of an “independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
Arab League chief heads to Moscow for talks after Hamas attack on Israel
Arab League Chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit headed to Moscow on Sunday for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the situation in Gaza after Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched the biggest attack on Israel in years.
Aboul Gheit, who served as Egypt’s foreign minister during the final seven years of Hosni Mubarak’s rule, will discuss the "ongoing escalation in the Gaza Strip," said a spokesman for the Cairo-based league of Arab states.
After Hamas's attack on Saturday, Russia expressed grave concern, calling on both Palestinian and Israeli sides to cease violence and blamed the West for blocking the Middle East Quartet.
Moscow said that a proper negotiation was necessary to provide for the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the borders of 1967 with a capital in East Jerusalem.
"We regard the current large-scale escalation as another extremely dangerous manifestation of a vicious circle of violence resulting from chronic failure to comply with the corresponding resolutions of the UN and its Security Council and the blocking by the West of the work of the Middle East Quartet of international mediators made up of Russia, the United States, the EU and the UN," Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

US Sends Warships, Aircraft Carrier To Israel For Potential 'Support' Operations
NBC's Pentagon correspondent is reporting that the US military is dispatching navy warships as well as an aircraft carrier to waters off Israeli as part of "support" operations.
"The US military is planning to move US Navy ships and US military aircraft closer to Israel as a show of support, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the planning," NBC's Courtney Kube writes. "Movements could start immediately but all the assets will not be in place for several days."
Scenes at Israel's Ben Gurion international airport have shown long lines of frantic Israelis, as well as tourists, seeking to exit the country amid fears of broader war and escalation following the major Saturday attack from Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants in Gaza.
Likely the coming days will see an exodus of tens of thousands of tourists as well as foreign nationals who reside in Israel. Dual Israeli nationals with places to stay abroad will also likely be seeking to get out.
NBC notes further that non-essential personnel may be leaving the US embassy in Jerusalem:
The U.S. is also working through plans for a possible non-combatant evacuation — helping Americans get out of Israel. Nothing has been decided or ordered but they are working through options, including one that involves putting some Americans on the Navy ships to get them to safety.

Russia calls on Israel and Palestinians to cease fire
Russia expresses its most serious concern at the sharp aggravation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Saturday.
"We call on the Palestinian and Israeli sides to implement an immediate ceasefire, renounce violence, exercise the necessary restraint and establish, with the assistance of the international community, a negotiation process aimed at establishing a comprehensive, lasting and long-awaited peace in the Middle East," she said in a statement.
Supreme Court Decision Could Change the Nation Every Single American Will Be Affected
The Supreme Court has been critical in deciding many issues facing the United States. Recently, it ruled against states that passed restrictive gun control laws. The court also ended Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan, calling it unconstitutional.
Because of former President Donald Trump, the court enjoys a strong conservative majority. Democrats have called for expanding the court, to add more liberal justices. It appears liberals fear future decisions that could undermine their agenda.

Scalise calls for Biden to be held accountable for Hamas attack
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise is calling for the Biden Administration to be held accountable for the “appeasement” of the military group behind the attacks on Israel.
The Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an attack against Israel early Saturday morning, killing at least 40 people and prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare the country was at war.
Mr. Scalise, Louisiana Republican, condemned the attacks on X, formerly Twitter, before going after President Biden for a prisoner swap deal with Iran earlier this year that freed up $6 billion in oil revenue. The usage of those funds was intended to be restricted to humanitarian aid.
“The Biden Administration must be held accountable for its appeasement of these Hamas terrorists, including handing over billions of dollars to them and their Iranian backers,” Mr. Scalise said.
Mr. Scalise is running to replace Rep. Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House and has been a longtime fixture in Republican leadership.
Another possible candidate for the gavel, Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, also sought to blame Mr. Biden for the attack.

Biden suggested that he had no choice but to build the wall because Congress under the Trump administration appropriated funds for it. Biden officials on Thursday stressed that the administration is bound to use the money Congress appropriated for border security.
"The money was appropriated for the border wall. I tried to get them to redirect that money," Biden said Thursday. "They didn't. They wouldn't, and in the meantime, there's nothing under the law other than they have to use the money for what it was appropriated. I can't stop that."
Biden also said that he did not believe a border wall works to stop illegal immigration.

I’ve been writing about Denver-area baker Jack Phillips for over a decade now. It’s clear to me he’s going to be badgered into the grave by authoritarians intent on punishing him for thought crimes. The latest chapter in Phillips’ Kafkaesque saga involves a transgendered lawyer named Autumn Scardina, who demanded Phillips create a pink cake with blue frosting to help celebrate a “gender transition.” As expected, Phillips, who’d already spent years fighting government coercion, refused to participate.
The Colorado Civil Rights Commission agreed that Scardina had been discriminated against as “a transgendered person.” Then, the dishonorable A. Bruce Jones of the Second Judicial District upheld the commission’s flagrant attack on free expression. Now, the Colorado Supreme Court has agreed to take up the case.
The entire case is built on ludicrous contortions of logic and law. The Colorado Court of Appeals, for instance, ruled in favor of Scardina, contending that the colors pink and blue aren’t really speech because, in and of themselves, they aren’t expressive of anything. The message, says the court, is “generated by the observer.”
